The Redland brick statue
Anyone who has ever driven round the one way system in Reigate will have noticed the excellent brick 'knot' that sits perched above the eastern entrance and exit from said system. It is now part of esure's building The Observatory and very appealing too with its 'how did they do that?' loops of brick. I have attached a picture of it taken from within the building just to show how impressive it is close up. Older residents of Reigate may remember Redland Brick whose headquarter once loomed where The Observatory now stands. For anyone who doesn't remember it, click here for a link to the Francis Frith collection photo of the building. Note the strangely high be-curtained windows.
Anyone who can fill in my gaps of knowledge about the 'knot', please use the main website mailing list and info page to send in your nuggets.

The Francis Frith Collection
I was searching for a picture of Castlefield Road and the old Redland Brick building that has now been replaced by the (rather more attractive, I have to say) esure building, The Observatory. I found the best picture in the fantastic Francis Frith collection. Here's the link. Now, of course, the knowledgeable among you will know that Francis Frith was a resident of Reigate (in between travelling around the world) and his gravestone / memorial remains in St Mary's cemetery. The firm that bears his name set out to photograph every town, city and village in Britain in pictures... and from the looks of the website, they succeeded. There are some wonderful photos of Reigate here. A treat for anyone interested in the town.

Deerings Road Mailing List
Today I've added a mailing list facility to the Deerings Road website. It's intended for people in Reigate and the Deerings Road area in particular to receive updates when we unearth new facts about the town or want to send out new information about events, concerns and local going on. To subscribe to the mailing list visit www.deerings.co.uk/mailinglist.htm.

Deerings Road... history, mystery and goings-on
This blog runs in tandem with the Deerings Road website that I maintain. Through it, I'll update people on my latest discoveries about both Deerings Road and Reigate history. A lot of it's still a bit unclear so I need your help!
Thanks
